I want to display my computer screen on my TV?
Posted by | Posted in FAQ | Posted on 15-08-2011
I have a 2000(or so) Gateway Windows XP computer, as well as a 2003 Toshiba 50A61 Projection Television. How can I display my screen on the television? I want to watch movies and such on my computer, but from the leisure of my television.
I had Netflix before but canceled my membership because I couldn’t connect it to my computer!
Can anyone help me? It would be much appreciated!
And please be very descriptive, I am not a big techy!
Hm. Can I get some sort of an HDMI adapter?
Ok, so If I got a adapter, which one would it be? I found some, but:

Since you have VGA on your Dell & component inputs on your TV, you want an accessory like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Premium-3-RCA-Component-Video-cable/dp/B000SJ2TJ8
This will work for video, but you need a separate cable for audio. Something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Player-Stereo-System-Audio-Cable/dp/B0027V9NOY
I hope this helps!
Without knowing the model number of your system its going to be difficult to make any suggestions .. however if you have a VGA port on the system – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector (picture on right hand side) the chances are you will have another one of these on your TV, all you need is a VGA cable long enough to go between your system and the TV – thats the picture on the left of the above link.
This however will not give you any sound, so you will have to use a cable plugged into your speaker connection of your system and
a) connect to 2 external speakers
b) connect to your TV IF it has Audio in sockets
c) connect to seperate surround system with Audio In
You may need a cable that is a single audio jack one end and a twin audio at the other, like this one – http://www.maplin.co.uk/twin-phono-to-3.5mm-stereo-jack-lead-31700
you need to have an HDMI port on your computer

and an HDMI cable
